DISCOVERING NEW PASSIONS 

MIDDLE SCHOOL ELECTIVES

Bethany Christian Academy offers middle school students many opportunities to explore and discover their passions through various elective courses. Our current electives are listed below with a class description.

ART (2D & 3D)

MRS. WATERBURY

2D: Students will continue to build on skills learned in elementary art in drawing and painting while exploring a variety of media including acrylic paint, pastels, pen and ink, and mixed media. They will learn the seven elements of art while elaborating upon ideas about color, perspective, and design.

3D: Students will express themselves creatively through sculpting, metalwork, and jewelry design to develop art skills and concepts. Composition technique, elements and principals of art, and attention to detail are explored.

CULINARY ARTS

MRS. PAFFORD

Students learn kitchen safety, including proper use of knives and other kitchen equipment. They learn how to read and follow basic recipes and prepare recipes in class and at home. Students also learn the math of cooking and how to cut a recipe or increase ingredients for more servings. There are four levels of Culinary and each semester the students will learn more advanced techniques and recipes.

GUITAR FOR BEGINNERS

MRS. BENJAMSON

Students will learn the basic fundamental skills needed for learning to play the guitar. They will work on beginner music theory, finger mechanics, rhythm, melody, and chords. Students must have their own guitar.

JOURNALISM

MRS. BOLLINS

Students will explore different facets of journalistic writing and create a variety of articles including interviews, human interest stories, local, national, and world events.

LEADERSHIP & SERVICE

MISS ADKINS

Students learn to serve in leadership positions. They will be involved in planning school events and implementing their own ideas to support our school in various ways.

MATH HELP

MRS. PETERSON

Students will get extra help with math through homework guidance as well as games to review math facts as needed.

PUPPETRY

MISS LEWIS

Students learn the art of arm rod puppetry (similar to the Muppet puppets) and how to manipulate puppets in performances. There are required events and performances for this class.

STEAM

MRS. PETERSON

In this class, students DO science. They conduct experiments, build projects, and test out ideas, going beyond what we have time for in our regular junior high science classes.

Materials Fee: $30.00

STUDY SKILLS (Q3)

MRS. BOLLINS

This class is designed to help those students that may struggle with the research report and/or science project, which are done in quarter 3. Lessons are structured to assist students with the research, writing, and reporting process, as well as study skills.

WORSHIP TEAM

MRS. BENJAMSON

Students learn to develop a lifestyle of worship, both personally and corporately. Participation can be voice or instrument (you must have your own instrument, except for drums and piano). The Worship Team will lead worship in weekly chapels.

PHOTOGRAPHY

MRS. MARSHALL

Students learn the basics of graphic design, layout, and photography. They will learn to use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. This is a very intensive and assignment driven class and students must be prepared to meet deadlines.
